![]() ![]() ![]() A software wizard helps configure each device to recognize other Bluetooth devices within 30 feet. For the laptops, we simply plugged in the PC Cards and installed the Bluetooth software from a CD-ROM disc. The Ericsson Bluetooth Headset HBH-10 and the phone adapter that works with the Ericsson T28 cellular phone runs about $200. The cost of the TDK PC Cards and software for the laptop was $160 and the blue5 attachment for Palm Vx was $200. The cost for the 3Com PC card modems and software is $150 each. Then we put on an Ericsson Bluetooth Headset HBH-10 and tested to see whether we would be able to answer phone calls and get adequate reception. Would the Palm Vx be able to wirelessly hotsync with the laptop? Third, we equipped an Ericsson T28 cellular phone with the Ericsson Bluetooth Phone adapter DBA-10. We also inserted a PC Card from TDK into an IBM Thinkpad running Windows 2000. The test: could they swap files quickly and effortlessly? Second, we installed a blue5 Bluetooth sled from TDK on a Palm Vx. First, we set up two IBM Thinkpad laptops with Bluetooth-enabled PC cards from 3Com. But will it compel us to abandon wired devices? To see how well Bluetooth works, we ran several tests. TEST: Does Bluetooth wireless technology live up to the hype?
